I have been a lecturer in the Aberdeen CS Department since August 1995. Before that I was a Senior Scientist in CoGenTex, a small (USA) NLP software house; a Research Fellow at the University of Edinburgh (UK); and a Research Associate at the University College of Cork (Ireland). My education (BA, MA, PhD) was all at Harvard University (USA). Just to add to the multinational mix, I was born in Israel. If the UN ever introduces a World Citizen passport, I think I'll apply for it.
I travelled a fair bit in the 1980s and early 1990s (before I had children), and I wrote a few travelogues about some of my trips. Their quality is mixed... In general people seem to most like the Papua New Guinea and Chile stories.
In 2017 I wrote a new travelogue on my blog, Cycling Through Northern England
I am a member and play various roles in the Aberdeen Synagogue and Jewish Community Centre. Feel free to contact me if you want information about Jewish activities in Aberdeen, we're always looking for ways to get more people involved.
